Illuminated House Numbers - What to consider.

When it comes to home renovations often the house front is the last thing on the list, however it’s the first (and sometimes only) element people see. So, don’t miss out on making passers-by envious, consider how your house looks from the street, as well as from the inside.

Illuminated House Numbers are a great place to start. They’re a quick and cost effective way to modernise your house front. Clearly visible day and night, they’re practical and of course, aesthetically pleasing. Your local Deliveroo driver will certainly thank you!

So what is there to consider?

Backlit or Front-lit

The most important decision is the type of illumination you’d like.

Front-lit verses backlit LED House Numbers

Front-lit LED House Numbers illuminate from the face of the numbers and have solid sides. They offer great visibility from all angles, and present a sleek and modern look.

Backlit LED House Numbers have a solid front, with illumination on the rear of the numbers. This shines onto and around the wall behind, creating a halo glow effect. Halo-lit or backlit House Numbers offer a premium, stylish look, that works well with both classical and modern home designs. They look great on textured backdrops, like brick walls, or any matt painted surface. However if you have a gloss backdrop, such as a shiny metal gate or fence, Front-lit House Numbers would be the best option.

Colour

Although you can keep your house numbers lit 24 hours a day (being LED they’re very efficient), in the daytime the illumination will be much less prominent, therefore it’s important to have a contrast between the backdrop colour and the house number colour.

As such, we recommend our Silver or Black Brushed Metal Backlit House Numbers for light-to-medium backdrops (walls, doors, fences, gates etc). And our White Front-lit House Numbers for medium-to-darker backdrops.

Size

Our standard sizes are:

15cm – perfect house front walls, fences etc.

7cm – perfect for smaller applications like letterboxes.

Each size indicates the height of the numbers, lowercase letters are proportionately smaller, creating that lovely ‘large house number, small letter’ look.

Shop these styles online, with fast delivery from Sydney. We stock numbers 0-9 and lowercase letters a and b.

Power connection

Unfortunately at this time using a small connected solar panel isn’t an option, as you won’t be able to achieve enough voltage. However, connecting to power is as simple as connecting a doorbell or exterior light.

Auto on/off with daylight

Installing a light sensor on your switch will mean the house numbers will be turned on at dusk and off a sunrise, so you can just set and forget. Standard dusk-til-dawn sensors are compatible with our LED House Numbers.

Alternatively many people choose to have them always on, as the light still gives a nice effect during the daytime, and being LED they‘re very power efficient.

Happy renovations!
